I have the honour to inform you that my attention has been called
to the question of the pay of Colonial Civil Servants serving with His Majesty's
forces who, being in receipt of an allowance from Colonial funds, are reported
missing and are subsequently presumed to be dead.
2. In this country it has been laid down that in such cases payments of
civil salary may be continued for not more than six months from the date on
which the casually is believed to have occurred, i.e., from the date on which the
man is "missing."

It appears to me that this rule might reasonably be adopted for the
territory under your administration, and I should be glad to learn that you
concur in an instruction to the Crown Agents for the Colonies to issue the allow-
ance for a period of six months to the representatives of any public servant who
is reported missing.
